Chief, did you ever wake up in the middle of the night and realize you're not getting back to sleep?

Thinking about the stock market is not a good way to relax. I've been kind of slow coming up with my 1999 long-term portfolio, but I've finally realized (maybe I was dreaming) that WHT has to be my number one pick for the year.

I had some WHT last year but sold with a nifty profit. I was lucky enough to buy some back on a dip on Christmas eve. My 1998 top 2 picks were DFX (up 490% to lead the TSE) and SWE (up 200% to make the VSE top 10) so I'm on a roll. Incidently, both of these look very good for 1999 too.

Trying to come up with a price target for WHT calls for the kind of higher mathematics that I don't fathom. How do I value sentiment, news, hype, momentum, and greed. I don't usually buy purely speculative stocks, but this one gives me palpitations.

I hope we'll see a "Ballard Power" style buying frenzy as the year progresses. This may include some more wild gyrations presenting short term trading and "dip buying" opportunities. We should certainly see $50 this year and may even see $100, but if we do I'll probably sell since I think $100 is too high (this year).

There seem to be about 12.5M shares of which directors hold about 5.5M leaving a float of less than 7M shares. I don't know how many of the 7M are held by other insiders or "friends". All of the shareholders I know are in for the long haul. I therefore speculate that the number of shares available for trading is quite small, maybe only 2M. Any opinion? I think we should watch the short positions carefully.

If WHT and other stocks keep going up I'll be a retired daytrader soon too.

Regards, Gofer
