Yes, it's an interesting question of how quickly they'll get the service to the door. I think the roll out of service can go faster than people realize once the commitment is made. I follow a company called Harmonic Lightwave and they've taken a good jump this week as people realize the upgrade is about to commence and they stand to benefit.

It's been very frustrating watching TCI back pedal on deployment, but I do believe they've layed much of the ground work with cable, and now they've got to get the hardware in place. Developments in Metro Link DWDM have come a long way and they seem ready to blow the doors off with a very robust high speed system.

I've heard these guys talk about 50 Meg download speeds. In the end, HFC systems will probably be the speed winners, but can the cable companies break out of their mold of bad service providers? Maybe people have a better image of AT&T which will make them seem like smarter companies all of a sudden.

I've taken a bit of a position in AT&T and think they've got some amazing moves lately for a old dinosaur.

This article lines up the battle between xDSL and Cable, but I wonder when wireless broadband will be allowed to compete? LMDS and MMDS are still loose cannons on deck and they've got a fraction of the infrastructure costs to get started.

Regards,

Mark
