All - Regarding Cyrix's M1/6x86 and Upcoming M2

If Cyrix's M2 is really based on their M1, Intel may not have too much to worry in the near future. Check out this anecdotal information from the Cyrix thread:

Mike,

WOW, I know very little about the subject but it all sounds VERY
impressive. I can't wait to hear the performance numbers and fuchi
and Carl analysis.

On a gloomier note, I've noted that MidWest Micro has dropped the
Cyrix based products and I received the following reply when I asked
why?

Kelvin,

Intel has recently reduced their CPU pricing to the point that the
Cyrix processors no longer offered a real cost advantage. We also
have had a number of complaints that there are a number of games and
other applications that do not work with the Cyrix CPUs. Investing in
a PC with an Intel processor would be your best choice.

Thanks for
writing to us.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Certainly gives us something to consider when we hear how Cyrix's M2 is going to bury Intel's Pentium MMX/Klamath.

M2, Brute?

Paul
