ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 1999--
-- Agreement Guarantees That Over 50% of the Growers and Suppliers in the World Will Have Access to Floraplex(tm) to Sell Their Products --
World Commerce Online (OTC BB:WCOL) announced a major partnership today with Hortimarc B. V., a horticultural marketing firm, that will tie growers, wholesalers and retailers from Europe, Asia, Israel and Africa to Floraplex(tm) as members according to Bob Shaw, Chairman and CEO of World Commerce Online, Inc. Hortimarc B. V., based in Amsterdam, Holland works with over 100 fresh cut flower and pot plant growers, wholesalers and retailers throughout the world. Growers and wholesalers associated with Hortimarc supply over 50% of the fresh cut flowers to Europe, Asia, Israel and Africa. Jaap N. Kras, President of Hortimarc expects Floraplex(tm), the only online trading system for the global Floral Industry, to revolutionize the floral business. "For more than thirty years the infrastructure for trading has stayed the same but Floraplex(tm) will give our growers and wholesalers a system to take them to a higher level," said Kras. "Now we will be able to conduct our business faster and easier from supplier to buyer and vice versa on a neutral system through the Internet." As part of the agreement, Floraplex(tm) will provide e-commerce services to growers allowing them to have unprecedented access to Floral Markets, Distributors and Wholesalers worldwide. This access means cut flowers will get to the market in a less expensive and timely manner. In addition, Floraplex(tm) will provide transaction services to growers allowing them to sell cut flowers and floral supplies online in a secure environment. Growers for the first time will be able to sell flowers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to markets around the world. Floraplex(tm) is the world's first futures market for the global floral industry. Bob Shaw, Chairman and CEO of World Commerce Online, said "Now the global growing community has direct access to their customers for the first time through a secure banking facility that gives them a faster route to payment for their products. We have been overwhelmed by the interest from growers and wholesalers worldwide regarding Floraplex(tm)." Currently, the system is going through a testing stage with commercial trading set to begin May 17th for growers in Europe, Asia, Israel and Africa. Hortimarc B.V. generates over $10 billion in wholesale to retail trade in Europe and another $6 billion in Asia according to Kras. The total consumption for Europe is estimated to be about $23 billion. Hortimarc B.V. in Holland will serve as the European and African offices. Hortimarc was established in 1992. It is a horticultural marketing firm and one of the most prominent companies of the Dutch Horticulture and Auction Market Industry. Hortimarc is active in providing innovative solutions where supply and demand meet through their professional association of consultants who specialize in consulting and management services to the horticultural industry, both nationally and internationally. World Commerce Online, founded in 1996, creates Global Commercial Networks & Trading Systems. FloraPlex(tm) is the first of those systems. Using E-Plex(tm) technology, FloraPlex(tm) links Growers, Wholesalers and floral retailers worldwide, merging secure communications, information and commerce on the Internet. The company also develops Virtual Private Networks for individual companies, municipalities, institutions and associations. Bob Shaw, Chairman and CEO of World Commerce Online, will be the featured guests of a special teleconference call on Thursday January 28, at 4:15pm.
