I know what you're saying about the outside dimensions of the bigger monitors. I still have a 17" because I don't want to buy another desk. If you have a few good store to compare quality, I would advise this over mail order. You can also get a better idea of the outer dimensions then. Also, check the max resolution available on your video card. If it is 1024 X 768, it will look HUGE on a 21" monitor. You might want to factor that into the price.
