Here is a take on Pharmaceutical companies in India and implications of the impending Patents Act.

In anticipation of amendments in Indian Patents Act,
MNC pharma companies are on a dream run on Indian
bources since Jul.'98. Market capitalisation of MNC
associates engaged in pharma industry has shot up 51%
to over Rs 12,000 cr when BSE Sensex has fallen 6%
during the same period. The largest gainer is Duphar-
Interfran followed by Fulford and Abbott Labs. The
only scrip which has not participated in this dream
run is Hoechst Marion which is up only 5%.
