I think CPQ owes it to the long-suffering shareholders to give them a shot at the initial AltaVista IPO, maybe according to some formula based on CPQ shares held. After all, the shares end up on the market sooner or later anyway and the offer would not have to cover all of the stock.

It would also cover the 50% institutional holdings in a way that wouldn't make this look like an insider's game, but still would encourage an increase back to the 60-70% levels CPQ used to have.
