WWM Names New Counsel In Suit Against Kazakstan
World Wide Minerals Ltd. dodged a bullet earlier this month, naming replacement counsel in its suit against the republic of Kazakstan on the very day of a court-ordered deadline. A federal district court judge ruled in December- that World Wide's $220 million damage claim would be dismissed if replacement counsel for the company failed to enter an appearance by Jan. 15 ( FreshFUEL Jan 11).
The Washington, D.C. law firm of Baise, Miller & Freer will now represent WWM in the lawsuit, said President and CEO Paul Carroll in a telephone interview last week. Baise Miller entered an appearance as the company's replacement counsel Jan. 15.
Armed with new counsel, World Wide filed a separate motion, also on Jan. 15, asking the court's permission to file an amended complaint. Carroll said the updated complaint, which could be filed in the next week or two, will add additional claims and defendants to the suit filed by the company in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia last May (FreshFUEL,May18).
Carroll declined to reveal the nature of the additional charges or identify the new defendants. But he is confident that the motion will be granted, allowing the case to proceed. "We are completely financed," he asserted. " |
