You haven't really demonstrated an exception to the rule. INTC has never really slowed down or given up any significant market share. They were, have been, and continue to be the behemoth in the chip market. The data points I provided were of companies that truely took significant hits to market presence, mindshare, and market capitalization. Your example is not by any means an exception.

In fact your example supports my position. Trying to market something at a cheaper price will not succeed in unseating the incumbent gorilla. Cyrix, AMD, and other low-priced chip vendors have failed.... They need to change the rules to succeed. Selling at below cost is not going to work....
