Mardy, I think TDMA will be able to be overlaid just as well as GSM will be. GSM overlay was done by Vodafone and Qualcomm in Newbury because GSM is the BIG ONE! They wanted to see that it could be done okay. GSM is just a TDMA subset, so the same thing will apply - with some electronic gizzard changes - to TDMA.
The big order just announced for the Mississippi expansion surprised some, but it just fills a big hole in a network which is making a LOT of money. So it will be paid back in a year or two, well before WWeb rollouts will be happening. It helps capture a LOT of long distance revenue. It helps develop a strong market presence. So it makes a lot of cents!
I don't take it as meaning TDMA or GSM or Ericsson are maybe able to compete with CDMA in the long run. The networks will be overlaid with WWeb to enable subscribers to get what they want.

Ericy and Qcom are coming to terms tomorrow at midday, San Diego time, which is going to be Webtime, so we know what time it is all around the world anytime at all. Webtime will take over from Greenwich Mean Time which was fine for my great grandparents on a sailing ship with sextant and log out the back for a speedo. No good for us Web denizens - some of whom don't see daylight anyway. Not me - got an eagle the other day!! Boast! Right in the hole, nothing but net and a clang from the pin from 110 metres with a 7 iron. Par 5. First ever. Never a hole in one.

{It's been pointed out to me that my last post came across as a personal attack on ElBullshit, which was not my intention. Sorry. My intention was to get him to focus on issues rather than the people making commments - all of whom have got a valuable viewpoint and something to say, though they will have to defend what they say if others disagree. For example, the silly soft dirt theory for why WLL won't work. It's nice to be personal too, even if critical, as long as that is more of an endearing nature - such as saying Tero makes Teroist attacks - we LOVE Tero and are proud that we have got his English up to the standard to be a DeBry "columnist". We are animal lovers too and ElMatador will be loved if he would just file the tips of his horns and use them to dig up the dirt on WLL than go round goring people. With familiarity, we could even learn to love Hagfish, slime and all. We hope soon to have them tamed and eating from the palm of our hand...hmmm, maybe I'll wear gloves. |
