Even if they know about computers prospective buyers will have great difficulty finding out about the specs or getting any other useful information at the average PC retail outlet. The salesmen and management are often just as much in the dark as the average consumer .Many of these PC's are sold almost entirely on a cost basis, and for the simple tasks most are used for,maybe that's OK. That's why companies like Dell are so popular with more sophisticated buyers.
In any case most PC are sold to businesses, who presumably have someone with PC knowledge in the decision chain.
