David--

OT too.

I don't really have any very good train stories, though two years ago while travelling from Philly to D.C we had a problem with the brakes--about half an hour from Union Station, naturally. Nothing could be done to fix it. So we sat there for about an hour, air conditioning off as apparently without the engine running we didn't have electricity.

Finally they brought another train alongside and had us switch over, which, considering that the trackbed was rather lower than the steps, was awkward. As we prepared to do this, the conductors warned us absolutely not to touch both trains at once. Needless to say, when my turn came I asked why. I'd guessed right: if you did it you'd get one hell of a shock.

Travel is so broadening.
