JDS is an excellent company and actually has relatively little overlap with UNPH. They sell mostly passive products vs. UNPH's active products. The senior mgmt of both companies are friends and highly respect each other. They have talked in the past of combining the firms. I believe it would be considerably accretive. One prob - a Japanese holding company owns a significant portion of JDS (the Fitel part relates to them). The Japanese have no interest in selling. Both companies retain some of the smartest optical scientists and engineers in the world and have huge growth in front of them.
