Franklin Telecom ICP 188C
Data Communications Processor Boards

PC/AT Industry Standard Architecture

The ICP 188C is a programmable high performance data communication processor
board that supports synchronous or asynchronous mode at up to 64Kbps full duplex on
each of four ports. It installs in Industry Standard Architecture PC/AT bus micro
computers and functions as a front end processor for its host system. The ICP 188C is
used in a variety of applications including network system products, terminal emulators,
programmable machine tools, voice response systems, protocol test devices and load
generation tools.

Intel 80188 CPU at 8mhz
Zilog 8530 Serial Communication Controllers
Intel 8237 DMA Controllers
512K dual ported memory
Up to 64Kbps per port
Full duplex DMA for all four ports
Four RS232 or RS422 ports
Up to eight boards per system
32K EPROM, EEPROM optional
CMOS design reduces power requirements and heat dissipation

Inter-System Communications

The ICP runs asynchronously to the PC/AT on its own clock at 8mhz. Arbitration
logic on the ICP resolves simultaneous PC/AT and ICP access to ICP memory
and peripherals. The PC/AT bus is the communications path between the PC/AT
and the ICP.
PC can start, halt reset, interrupt ICP
Software selectable 64K window address in PC address space fron 8000 to
F000H
Jumper selctable Interrupt Request Line for ICP interrupt to PC
PC can set non-maskable interrupt to ICP
Eight contiguous I/O addresses

External I/O

DB37 connector provides RS232 signals for each of four ports through quadplex
cable with four DB25 connectors
RS232 signals provided are TXD, RXD, RTS, CTS, DSR, DCD, TXC, RXC, DTR

Compatibility

ICP 188C installs in PC/AT bus Industry Standard Architecture micro computers
Compatibility resting will be performed by Franklin Telecom on an arranged basis
