Dear Janice,
I am very permissive about the foods my kids eat. They get to eat the sugar cereals I longed for as a child (but my mother wouldn't give me). I let them drink sodas occasionally, but I secretly water them down. As far as I know my kids have a very healthy attitude about food. We have a huge bowl of fruit out at all times, baby carrots in the fridge they can always have and bunches of other stuff.

My daughter started to pick up this weird weight conscious stuff at school (now remember she is only a second grader) and she started asking me how fattening things were that I made for her. I am trying to nip this in the bud. I haven't dieted since I was 14. The only reason I did it then was because of our societies mass psychosis against women with hips. I'm trying very hard to show my daughter by my own example that food is a great joy and should never be a worry as long as you maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle.

I worry secretly Janice. The only things I don't let my children have are aspartame, unpasteurized drinks, imported fruit and raw meat. I honestly don't believe they know I've even limited their diets. I don't shoo them out of the kitchen screaming "Germs, horrible nasty germs, run for your lives!" Rather, I put on a movie for them and tell them not to come in the kitchen because I'm cooking and I don't want any EXTRA messes to clean up.

We are all in good shape, my two girls are rail thin but that runs in my husbands family. Believe me when I tell you that I am not a nut as far as I know. People who know me swear I'm a very level headed person.

Enjoy those hot dogs Janice, did you eat 'em raw?
