The general proposition that CPQ will be more affected now and in the future by relatively uninformed punters looking for an internet play is probably true. When this interest turns negative it may have a temporary negative effect on the stock price. But on the whole, given the optimism of such punters, it should have a largely positive effect. It gives CPQ sizzle and raises its profile.

More informed investors will see that even if shareholders don't get AV shares, CPQ, the company, has a potential gold mine in its backyard.

To keep the interest alive and reduce negative speculation, CPQ should announce that shareholders will be allowed to tender for a quota of AV shares at the IPO offer-price. This will not alter the amount of money AV would generate from the IPO and would leave CPQ-AV the freedom to do deals prior to the IPO.
