Maybe your friend's company is well on the way to fixing their Y2K problem but the more I read about this, the more I realize just how much it reaches out and touches so many areas of our lives that we don't normally think of as related to a "computer date."
Here's a good place to start reading:
year2000.com

Maybe you are using a MAC so you don't know that the original release of Windows 98 was not totally Y2K compliant -- something Microsoft did not go around advertising when the product hit the shelves. Just because one has a relatively new system, does not mean that the particular system is totally compliant.

Or what about the hospital that order 2, new, very expensive diagnostic tools which came as certified Y2K compliant. They were tested and one failed! Turns out that the machines were identical expect for a particular chip. The machine that failed the test had an imbedded chip from a different manufacturer that was not Y2K compliant. This was BRAND NEW identical equipment certified as Y2K compliant.

The scope of this problem is huge. Now, imagine you are a new computer user. Wouldn't you rather start out with a system that has been Y2K compliant for years like Apple?
