You know, Mr. F, everyone can keep yelling about tulips, tradition, history, etc., but guess what? The Internet is here to stay. The entire world landscape is changing. Life (if it goes on - big if) will be entirely different than yours and my childhood. Give it up. People will look back in a few years (remember big if) and say, "if I had only invested in those Internet companies, I'd be rich". And guess what, they will also say, "you know, I could have bought just about any of them in 1997-1999". You can continue to be negative, but look at a chart on MANY of the tech companies from 1987 to now. $1000 turns into millions in case after case. Seems impossible, but it is true. Whose companies will return millions? A few. Whose companies will return hundreds of thousands. Many. Whose companies will return a good profit year after year. Just about every Internet company today.
