A noble cause, as is Intel's

I agree with everything you wrote, except for the comment above. Intel knew that their competition doesn't have the ability to put cheap flash on a CPU die, and they saw this as an opportunity to shut out the competition. Similar to the PII bus/slot 1 ploy.
