The earnings will clearly beat the whisper number simply because LSI gave as negative a look as possible given the outrage over its August debacle, where they preannounced less than one month after not giving a forward look that included such a bad outlook. Furthermore, it is obvious that LSI's storage business is excellent, so that alone will lift the earnings. Still, Wilf's credibility is still at low ebb, so any overly enthusiastic look forward will be greeted with skepticism. And it is the forward look of the company and the semi market in general that will drive LSI's stock price--not the earnings announced today.

As such, I think you will see some upward revisons in earnings estimates over the next two to six months for fiscal '99 to about $1.00 for this year, and it is very possible that you will see $1.75 for next year , which will put the stock at $40 by mid to late '99.
