BEIJING (January 28, 1999 9:20 a.m. EST
nandotimes.com) - An e-commerce site serving
China's growing numbers of Internet users
announced a small profit for 1998 on Thursday and
said it had a record one million page views in
January.

"We've hit several milestones over the past year, but
this one really bodes well for the future of the site,"
said Steve Chiu, director of sales and marketing at
Zhaopin.com, a bilingual recruitment Web site.

He predicted the one million page views per month
would increase sharply in March as white collar
workers looked for new employment after getting
their Lunar New Year bonus at the end of February.

"We had a big boost in traffic last March, largely as a
result of growing awareness of Internet recruitment
amongst Chinese who work for foreign enterprises
on the mainland," Chiu added.

China's Internet market is expected to grow from 2.1
million users to nearly 10 million in the next four
years, even though only one in 240 people owns a
personal computer.

Most Internet operators, especially those engaged in
electronic commerce, complain the market is too
small to turn a profit at this stage.
