Where did you ever get that idea? The grid gets fried from a surplus of electricity? I suppose it's possible, but there is a problem with that:
25% of the machines stop at the same time. That implies these 25% all use very similar technology (not likely), that the bug in 25% are all the same (not likely), and that the grid can actually get fried if it happens (I've heard it the other way around, but from what I have learned about the grids, they are better at handling surpluses than deficits).
