This market in general is so institutionalized that MM probably control most market actions at least in the short run. Somebody's always buying when others are selling. Every seller must be matched by an equal dollar amount of buying. The direction of prices is determined by the respective urgency of sellers and buyers. I have never been sure where the "smart" money is. Professionals and institutions are usually considered the "smart"ones, but if this is true why do 85%+/- of mutual funds lag the S&P500?
