I am trying to find a superior trading platform than my current one (DATEK). Now that shouldn't be too hard :), but I have one major problem. I do my trading at work (since this is where I am during the trading hours), and the computers we use all day here are not windows based they are Silicon Graphics Workstations that have Netscape 4.5.1. This unfortunately restricts my trading to browser based trading, and puts all the high-end PC based systems that are available out of my reach (mb trading, cyber, jpr, etc). I do have a kick ass awesome DELL pc at home, but I mostly use that for research and trading when I am 'home sick'.
Speed hasn't been so much a problem with my situation (we happen to have a t1 line) as reliability has. I do not consider myself a 'daytrader' as I tend to hold positions for short term price movements, sometimes several days to several weeks. I have used Datek for this for several years, but as my trading savy has advanced, I find myself looking for a few more features. Specifically I would like to:
- Have access to L2 Quotes (Etrade now offers this, and Datek supposedly will as well. Right now Datek has streaming L1 which actually works very well and is screaming fast even with all fields turned on with 10 stocks updating in real time)
- Trade Pre and Post market with SelectNet and or Instinet
Does anybody know of anything out there like Datek or Etrade, maybe that is Java based that offers both of these features, or are they only found on the high end PC based software programs out there?
Maybe I could bring my dell into work and Network it right next to my SGI?? Heh! Seriously, Much thanks in advance for any responses.
