Bigfoot TS Drive a Monster Value

January 28, 1999
WINDOWS MAGAZINE via NewsEdge Corporation : The Quantum Bigfoot TS hard drive family is truly amazing. I tested the TS line's largest-capacity model, an Ultra ATA drive that stores up to 19.2GB (but formats to 18.2GB) and costs a paltry $309. That's a record-setting 1.7 cents per MB (about half the cost of typical hard drives). Though the Bigfoot's platters spin at only 4000rpm (compared to around 5400rpm for most IDE drives), it provides very respectable performance. I copied files at 0.99MB per second, compared to 1.51MBps for the rival IBM Deskstar 14GXP on our WinList.

The drive's 5.25-inch form factor means you'll have to use a standard bay, rather than a 3.5-inch hard-drive bay, but it's worth it. The Bigfoot TS's speed, capacity and value surpass the competition enough to replace the Deskstar on our WinList.
