PB, re fibre channel, interesting, I happened to catch the CFO of Adaptec on CNBC this week. Mark Haines led with a 'fibre channel is just not making it' premise, and the Adaptec guy (Andy Brown) agreed! Of course, Adaptec recently cut loose Ridge, which is into storage and fibre channel, and they're (Adaptec) now confined again inside the PC, so what are they going to say? They talked about nothing but SCSI from then on. So I take it you still think fibre channel will take off? Sounds like EMC agrees.
As far as most of the data going over to NT, or NT taking over...Ruettgers: What we see happening is that the three major operating systems that you have today -- mainframe operating systems, Unix operating systems, NT operating systems -- will continue to coexist for a couple of years, but most of the data that's being stored is going onto the NT operating system.
...I think he's a bit hasty (couple of years?). Those other two types of systems besides NT will be around for a long, long time. Would be great for Intel, though, if NT took over the world.
