If Compaq does in fact grind its way to $60 as you suggest, it would be the perfect scenario to write naked puts. There are 2 kinds of writers, those who are in it to capture the speculative excess of the marketplace with no intent of getting assigned and thus tying up capital, or those who merely wish to be assigned and acquire stock at a price lower than current market.
The slow grind to $60 would suit the former ideally, although the later would end up with premium but no stock. Not exactly the worst fate in the world.
But alas, I am not convinced Compaq is going anywhere soon but down as I agree with the critics who suggest that minus tax credits and various other accounting gems, Compaq really earned 0.35

Time will tell
