HMK--talk about a ridiculous overreaction! The company came out after the close with this:

Company Press Release

HA-LO Issues Update on its Business
NILES, Ill., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- HA-LO Industries, Inc. (NYSE: HMK - news), the nation's leading distributor of promotional and premium advertising products, announced today that although the company has not finalized its 1998 operating results, management believes that its recurring earnings results will be $.97 to $1.02 per share. Additionally, the company believes earnings for 1999 will be $1.30 to $1.40 per share. As originally planned, HA-LO expects to release final earnings results on February 18, 1999.

First call estimates were around 1.06 for this year and in the high 1.40's for next year. So a maximum of about a 10% earnings shortfall results in a 37%plus haircut.

This stock has a fat short ratio over 8. Looking for a rebound tomorrow. The following is from another story today:

"An analyst at a major Wall Street firm cut his rating from a strong buy to a buy and cut his estimates," said Alexander Paris Jr., an analyst at Barrington Research. "I think this is a classic overreaction."
