Cymeed, CKFR impressive run since late December huh? ;)
Looking at earnings report today... reported 23% gain year over year in revenue...
Anything internet you don't look at earnings... you look at TOP LINE growth... in common man's terms that means REVENUE growth.
Also, business model is important. That is why EBAY is superior to UBID, ONSL, EGSS etc... people mistakingly put all these companies together, but EBAY has a different business model ("the big garage sale" I like to call it) than UBID, ONSL, and EGGS (which all do basically the same thing--well ONSL is changing their model now since they can't thrive in the auction model)
These internet companies are building and investing in themselves, advertising, etc... the payoff comes down the road in earnings, not now... so focus on what they do, who competes against them, who are potential competitors, and how fast their revenue grows. Think of where AOL was 3 years ago... not making $$$$< but revenue growth was ramping up ... and advertising was EVERYWHERE.
As an example of a company that could have some long term struggles I cite AMZN. This is not to say AMZN wont go up 200% in the next 3 months but.... while I think AMZN benefits from being a market leader, and has a brand name.. and being first to market, for the long term they have a lot of challenges. Barnes and Noble will compete in their most important market (books), and CDnow and NTKI compete in their 2nd biggest market (music), then you have the potential of a real market stud like Wal-Mart coming in to compete against all of these... so that is why i am less bullish on AMZN in the longer term than say CMGI or LCOS, YHOO, BRCM, etc.
Now that said..(sorry to ramble) back to CKFR... 23% is nice for most companies, but for an internet company ... not stupendous growth. However, the chart says a lot of people like the company, and its a steady riser. It's float is big enough to signify to me that this company is going up not based on individual investors, but insitutions who like it as well.
I havent researched it myself, and that is a 5 minute analysis. I think with what little I know of CKFR, a lot depends on if their standard is what is adopted as the industry standard. If so, then it's a gold mine.
Once again, want to emphasize, this is on a 5 minute analysis and just sporadic reading on CKFR over the past few months! I don't follow it closely.
Sorry for such a long answer... lol Mark |
