Everyone: I've enjoyed your informative posts. I've quietly read this thread for many months and today I finally have a chance to share. As a fellow long in MSPG, the WCOM ISP entry shouldn't be a cause of tremendous concern. True, it may it hit the stock, but fundamentally, MSPG is the best managed ISP out there.
Lets consider the following: 1) MSPG is the only player not connected to a big telecommunications company. At the very least, strategic alliances are likely.
2) MSPG will be a target for someone, irrespective of whether they like it or not. They'll get eyeballed by some LDs and RBOCs too.
3) Even if MSPG stays independent, the quality of the management and execution they deliver is truly exceptional. No doubt, compeitition will increse (At&t, tci, @home), (Earthlink/Sprint), (AOL), etc, but so far MSPG's mgmt has done a tremendous job.
4)A moonshot to consider (given the loonyness in today's markets): Content can only do so much, its access that counts too. This company looks attractive by all aspects. If YHOO can payup for some unprofitable website host like GCTY, I'm sure there are prospective acquirers out there that'll pay up for our profitable MSPG.
Best of luck everyone.
