If all Chambers wants voice recognition a la Voicetek, he is more likely to go after an outfit like Periphonics which is a pure play. ASPT comes with too much other baggage to buy them just for Voicetek. I'd be happy no matter how it turns out because I own all 3 stocks (csco, peri, & aspt). I believe that csco's interest in voice is more focused around the integration of voice and data networks. This has nothing at all to do with voice recognition and a lot to do with fast ATM switches and QOS (quality of service). I am betting on Newbridge Networks (NN) as a play on the conversion of the telephone company backbone from TDM to ATM. This is only one facet of digital telephony. CSCO, ASND and others are strong competition in the enterprise market, but NN rules at the backbone. That market will explode as demand for bandwidth increases exponentially over the next 5-10 years.
