Press release today - J. Andrew Moorer promoted to President-CEO

Story at this link on Yahoo:

biz.yahoo.com

I will summarize three significant points from the press release:

1. Oliver L. North will remain as chairperson, but J. Andrew Moorer (interim chief operating officer) will take his place as President and CEO.

2. Mr. North said, "I want this company to continue to grow and to enhance shareholder value. My increasing responsibilities in broadcasting do not permit me to focus sufficiently on these tasks as chairman of the board, president and CEO. Mr. Moorer is just the person to take Guardian to the next level as president and CEO,'' added North.

3. Mr. Moorer said, "In 1998 we made significant strides in improving operating margins for Guardian's line of ballistic protective equipment. My marching orders for 1999 are to expand Guardian's revenue base through a combination of internal growth and acquisition. I'm looking forward to the opportunity."

In my opinion, this is a positive development. GRDN now has a CEO (Mr. Moorer) who has full time, interest, track record and authority to run the company. Mr. North as chairperson still lends name recognition and longer-term guidance. The improvement in operations and plans to pursue growth and acquisitions suggest that this company will prosper.

Here's looking forward to growth during 1999.
