New York--Jan 29-- Compaq Computer Corp. today announced the
formation of the Compaq.com Business Division. The new division will be
responsible for selling Compaq products, services and solutions to customers
over the Web.

COMPAQ.COM EXPANDS E-COMMERCE REACH
Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today announced the
formation of the COMPAQ.COM Business Division,
( compaq.com ), to establish Compaq as one of the leaders
in online marketing.
THE NEW DIVISION WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING COMPAQ PRODUCTS,
SERVICES AND SOLUTIONS TO CUSTOMERS OVER THE WEB. This represents
Compaq's second strategic announcement in the Internet arena this week
following Tuesday's announcement of the company's creation of the
AltaVista Company ( altavista.com ).

INTERNET TO NOT ONLY SELL SYSTEMS AND SOLUTIONS, BUT ALSO TO BUILD

sites for consumers to highly integrated extranets for global
corporations," said Eckhard Pfeiffer, Compaq President and CEO.
Pfeiffer named Kenny Kurtzman as vice president and general
manager of Compaq.com, reporting to Enrico Pesatori, Compaq Senior
Vice President, Corporate Marketing. Kurtzman was most recently vice
president and general manager of Compaq's Small and Medium Business
(SMB) Division where he led the recent successful launch of the
company's Prosignia family of products and Internet services, and SMB
direct sales program.

e-commerce buying experience in the industry and also deliver the most
valuable content and services on the Internet," said Kurtzman.
