Company Press Release

Accelerated Adoption of Audio Compression Technology for Multimedia Databases Prompts Softlink to Increase Its 1999 Sales Projections

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 1999--Softlink, Inc. (OTC BB:SFLK - news): Softlink President and Co-Founder, Johnson Lee anticipates revising the Company's 1999 sales and financial projections upward next week, citing the recently announced inclusion of Softlink's proprietary audio compression technology into the leading-edge multimedia databases created by Japan's NIC, Ltd. as another contributing factor.

Softlink's Lee says of the licensing of Softlink's audio compression technology to NIC: ''This is the kind of pleasant surprise that all technology development companies want, the kind that establishes your technology on the ground floor of an emerging industry -- in this case, the multimedia database industry.''

This recent development is not viewed by Softlink, Inc. as a departure from the Company's primary focus on E-mail and Internet communication. Providing uniquely beneficial compression technology for multimedia Internet communication has been and shall remain the Company's primary focus. This NIC partnership is a simple extension of this focus into applications for corporate communications and corporate IT environments.

NIC Ltd., Softlink's partner in this multimedia database project, was founded in 1968 and is a well-established software developer in Japan. NIC Ltd. provides multimedia database services to Honda Motor Corp. (NYSE:HMC - news), Sumitomo Construction Corp., Tokyo University, Minolta Digital Studio, and two of the largest construction companies in Japan: Shimizu and Kashima Corps. NIC also has well-established partnerships with Mediakite and Computerwave, as well as with Japan's largest software distributor, Softbank, and with two of Japan's top three publishers, Kodansha and Shougakukan Corp.

Further information about NIC is available at: www.nic-j.com.
