ASHINGTON, Jan. 29 (UPI S) _ The federal Food Service and Inspection
Service has announced (Friday) an expansion of a monthlong, nationwide
recall of hot dogs and lunch meats linked to a bacteria blamed for 12
adult deaths and three miscarriages. The recall of meats produced at
Sara Lee Corp.'s Bil Mar plant in Zeeland, Mich., was expanded to
certain food-service outlet stores in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois,
Missouri, Indiana and Alabama. So far more than 15 million pounds of
meat have been recalled. A separate listeria-related recall announced
last week by Thorn Apple Valley affects 5 million pounds of meat.
