Re: The Eide Zip can Definitely be the boot drive. It was designed to be the boot up drive.
So was there combo drive, which read both 3.5" and the Zip disk. Your best bet is to ask Steve Lennert, he works for Iomega and reads the Iomega threads.

Tom,
Thank you for pointing that out to me. Something is wrong or things have changed. In 1994 I used the EIDE and combo prototypes. At that time both were bootable and much faster than the scsi version. I can only draw conclusions from what I know and what you tell me. Maybe together we can shed some light and solve this. I respect you and hope you realize that I wasn't trying to degrade you by saying that it was bootable, if you thought I did I apologize.

Ok,
Now lets try and solve this.

The type I used was Eide not Ide, this might hold a clue to the answer but why wouldn't they release the Eide first. The Eide has so much more potential than the Ide. Why didn't they release the Ide or Eide before the scsi version, they would sell much better than the scsi. Why didn't they release the combo before the scsi version, they would sell even better than the Ide or Eide. I know Iomega has a four phase strategy plan to make zip the future floppy. The riddle to the above questions probably hides in their phase strategy plan.
It's not that difficult or expensive to produce the zip in the bootable Eide version. So why didn't they? I no longer work for Iomega so I can't answer these questions, that's why I suggested posting a message to Steve.
