MKC: What does it mean if the vast majority of them actually apply? (g) On another topic, I note that the N.Y. press just provided a bit of vindication to my view that we would see "flat to slightly up" PC unit sales in 1998, and "reduced PC revenues in 1998". I took a bit of heat over that forecast, but it looks like it was fairly accurate. Last year (1997), the number was 85-87 million units (depending on whose figures are utilized). IDC this A.M. is quoted as saying the 1998 number is 92 million (as an aside, check out their forecast for 1998 and compare it with this number). I love it. I could be a bit mean and suggest that one subtract the normal IDC "always optimistic" factor, but that is unnecessary. Given the now obvious "channel stuff" that occurred at the end of the year (review numbers from resellers, or CPQ's numbers or talk to anybody in the channel for confirmation), our forecast appears fairly close.
