If the CPU ID is turned on unwittingly by some program, that's a malicious program, plain and simple, and it belongs in the same category as those macro viruses, misbehaved ActiveX components, e-mail attachment bombs, etc. How do you know that Microsoft isn't surreptitiously scanning your hard drive and sending the information over the Net every time you use dial-up access? After all, that Windows 98 sure does seem slower than Windows 95 ... Tenchusatsu
