Sigh. People just have to keep barking the same old fears over and over again.

Remember that the CPU ID is turned OFF by default. If the CPU ID is turned on unwittingly by some program, that's a malicious program, plain and simple, and it belongs in the same category as those macro viruses, misbehaved ActiveX components, e-mail attachment bombs, etc.

How do you know that Microsoft isn't surreptitiously scanning your hard drive and sending the information over the Net every time you use dial-up access? After all, that Windows 98 sure does seem slower than Windows 95 ...
