mr. mark, When I had the phone guys here, they did put a meter on my line and found noise... a long time ago..and replaced everything. I believe the noise level after that was nominal. Tech experts have told me my modem either works or it doesn't, so I haven't replaced it. Have a Zoom Dual modem (not V90 because my old isp earthlink advised they weren't ready for v90) RickF
