Thanks for that impeach Campbell stuff Dan. This is a very interesting thing to watch, because Campbell was tremendously popular and considered unbeatable before his impeachment vote. At the same time he represents a very socially liberal district and ran on a campaign of "an independent voice" - which he clearly was not when he lined up with the ducks at the republican shooting gallery.

There is no dem ready to run against Campbell in 2000 - I know that, so I suspect he will be reelected, but you never know, he really angered a lot of people.

Personally I didnt really have a huge problem with him, or even his vote until he took a stand against Clinton on this Jane Doe #5 issue. Chris Matthews reported that Campbell felt this Jane Doe issue was so critical that he needed to vote for impeachment. His office then stated that he felt the WH would be "after him" for his vote. Now THAT angered me. Additionally a law professor should know better than to claim flimsy info like that is grounds for impeachment, sheesh NBC wont cover it, Newsweek wont print it, amazingly, it wasnt even in the Starr report! But Campbell feels it was relevant, give me a break. All these guys on SI from Campbells district (most of which voted for him) - Addi and Jim Kelley etc have all turned against Campbell and they are protesting Campbell at Safeway too.

Guess hes just going to have to leave town! Maybe the University of N Carolina needs a new law professor!
