DJ; RE:" do Tel, dude "

There were a couple of important developments in the U.S. telco biz this week, DJ. First, a court decision re-interpreted the Long-Dx BigTel's access to the BabyBell's local networks.

dailynews.yahoo.com

There was a lot of panic at first - everybody jumped off the BabyBells stox choo-choo train (these phone companies are the most widely-held stox in The States, DJ). What used to be "MaBell" before the breakup is now essentially the entire PNX.X index, giving some indication of what a humongous monopoly MaBell was:

T - AT&T long DX

SBC+AIT, BEL, BLS, USW local regions

geocities.com

...not counting the crumbs spun offa MaBell, like LU - Bell Labs !

Berney and I happened to be playing around in the PNX.X sector when this happened, so it was great! 4% waves suddenly became 8% waves. At first it appeared that the BabyBell's just got screwed. But then the turtle press NYTimes printed a more thoughtful clarification of the court's ruling, noting that the BabyBell's won the ability to charge for certain access rights. Next day, everybody jumps back on the BabyBell choo-choo.

Bottom line is that big GlobalTels will have enhanced access to local U.S. BabyBell switching networks.

The second development was even more intriguing...

biz.yahoo.com

BigT comes out and says, "we're gonna flat-rate all long-DX calls at 10 cents / minute, and we're gonna make wireless calls at the same 10 cents/minute flat-rate. For the first time, firing up your handi costs about the same as making any other phone call. uh-huh !

ok, consider the analogy...

INTC : AMAT (Intel is to AMAT) meaning, as we were talkin' about a while back, INTC stock growth is a function of its underlying commodity, chips, leveraged by Fed market liquidity cost of kapital; this is a leading indicator of AMAT stock growth, which is a function of capital equipment (utilisation) investment.

So,

INTC : AMAT as T : LU, par example.

The implication of the fundamental change appears to be...

IF Long-DX = Handi THEN T : NOK.A

further...

T+WCOM : NOK.A+ERICY+MOT

and finally...

T+WCOM : LU + (NOK.A+ERICY+MOT)
