Oh, I'm not crying for the Sandinistas, but I find this "sponsoring conflicts" thing a bit hypothetical. Would that be like the dreaded Grenada airfield, that we had to "rescue the medical students" to stop?

Funny thing, all those horrible Soviet satellites in eastern Europe fell without bloodshed, and it's not at all clear that there were that many people killed during the Communist reign in eastern Europe to begin with. Compared with, say, the U.S. installed Mobutu in Zaire, or our "triumph" in Afghanistan, or any number of other examples of our covert cold war policies, and the calculus gets quite complicated. I make no judgements, that's for history, but I find the smugness of the right on these matters not totally satisfying.
