jhg:
I don't know about you, but for me, it must be a roller-coaster ride for the last 18 months, I don't remember how many market downturns we had during that time. I could recall at least 3. I flushed my whole porforlio twice during those times, but was smart enough to hold on the 3rd time during last Sept-Oct and was rewarded handsomely. During the last 3 months, I probably made twice as much as in the stock market than my annual salary as a software system analyst. It's hard to concerntrate on my job during the market hour, I have to admit. I couldn't resist to look at how much my porforlio has increased every 5-10 minutes in my workstation at work. I am working in the West Coast, and my productivity doesn't start until 1:00pm here after the market close. I often dreamed about I would retire in 5 years having made enough money to spend for the rest of my life if this continues. But the reality is, this might be a one time thing, I still have to do my bread-and-butter job, because that's the stable income. So essentially, my life hasn't changed, even my porforlio has increased dramatically.
Let's keep in mind that we WILL see the downturn again, and it's important not to panic, but instead use that as an opportunity to load up on quality stocks. You will be rewarded at the end.
welcome aboard. i arrrived 18 months ago and Dell--and this thread-- has changed my life. You will prosper too.
