Hi RG, I guess I meant it figuratively. Yes, I usually buy a block of stock then when the price varies more than about 15% in either direction, I either buy or sell some shares. During the first year, the Sells can be a bit painful from a tax point of view.

I use FIFO accounting on my stocks as well and just keep the tickets in date order as they come in the mail. Once the core position is exhausted from selling, then it's the newer tickets that go.

Except for new positions, this hasn't been a problem. I generally keep my positions at least 3 years and usually longer. Most of the trades I do eventually end up being long term trades. Probably less than 10% overall are short term.
