Rudedog,
You know as well as anyone else that past performance is no guarantee of future performance, but I still value the opinion of a winner.
Furthermore, don't kid yourself, I know of rich Dellheads that have also made huge scores on internet stocks.
In my mind, there is a world of difference between someone who's made a fortune over the years with Dell as opposed to someone who's made a fortune of late on internets. The former has demonstrated incredible discipline, an acute understanding of Dell vs the rest of the sector, and a healthy suspicion of "conventional wisdom". The latter, I humbly submit, is a momentum player riding a red hot sector who can't possibly possess the same depth of knowledge on a company no one truly understands.
Thousands of investors may have successfully traded Dell on and off, but I maintain it is a rare individual that has ridden Dell for most of its run.
The bottom line is that Dell has outperformed Cpq over the last 3 years by a wide margin, thus my "Compaq is good, Dell is better". Just don't assume that the internet nouveau riche belong in the same league as they have at least another 2 1/2 years before all the votes are tallied.
Does this answer your question?
