FEMA Regional Y2K Workshops Begin - Full FEMA Coverage of Y2K Issues
WASINGTON, January 26, 1999 -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) kicks off its first series of regional Y2K Preparation & Consequence Management Workshops agencies in Atlanta, Ga., in mid-February. In addition to FEMA officials, participants will include state emergency managers, state fire marshals, state Y2K coordinators and regional representatives of key federal agencies. Attendance by invitation only.
The 10 workshops, to be held across the country from mid-February through the end of March, will provide a forum where the emergency management and fire services communities can discuss initial Y2K compliance assessments, potential consequences of Y2K disruptions and the coordination of necessary responses among local, state and federal responders. The regional workshops will pave the way for a national-level Y2K consequence management exercise to be held in Washington, D.C., in June.
"FEMA has a major role to play in working with state and local emergency management and fire services officials to prepare for dealing with any disruptions and responding to Y2K transition problems," FEMA Director James Lee Witt said. "These workshops are designed to identify possible problems and help the emergency management and fire services communities plan responses and develop contingency plans."
Meanwhile, FEMA officials at the highest level were focusing on Y2K issues in a series of meetings in Washington, D.C., this past week.

FOR THOSE STILL SITTING THE "ON THE FENCE" RE SEVERITY OF Y2K DISRUPTIONS ... DO YOU REALLY WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO DO ALL THE CONTINGENCY PLANNING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?
I SUGGEST YOU START DOING SOME PERSONAL PREPARATION NOW. ________________________________________________________________
Family Prep 2000
Y2K is coming. The factors that are compounding the problem, such as computer code renovation, embedded systems, and lack of administration in Big Business are all beyond the realm of our control. So, we are faced with the idea of having to prepare ourselves for the impending arrival of the Y2K Hurricane - our only option is to prepare individually.
But, when it comes to preparing for Y2K, Individual Preparedness is simply not an option for those of us who have children, pets, ands extended families. Instead, we must resort to the concept of Family Preparedness and involve the entire family in the preparedness process.
Remember, preparing yourself and your family for Y2K is not survivalism, as some journalists and speakers have stated. Putting together a preparedness contingency plan for your family in the event of a potential disaster, whether that be a hurricane, tornado, flood, or Y2K, is just common sense, not survivalist thinking.
After all, our own government offices and corporate businesses are requiring their offices to have contingency plans in place to deal with potential Y2K problems. Shouldn't your family have one, too?

P.S This is the BEST site I've seen thusfar, with good, solid, practical and non-extreme advice. Some investment advice from Tony Keyes. There's even an area with pre- formatted letters for banks, govt, telecommunications, etc. All you have to do is type in name and addresses and print out letters. Good luck. |
