A year from now I don't know if I'll still feel that all these methodologies are useful on one machine.

I too do not know where I will end up. Six months ago I had nothing..now I have a lot of options and do not know which ones will pan out the best. My comfort level has improved substantially.

The CDROM restore option by HP and Plextor looks promising. Hopefully someone will try it and let us know. The trouble reports of booting CDROMs by Spots and Sean make me wonder how good the CDROM option is. I am sticking with one IDE CDROM for that reason.

One advantage to the CDROM is it removes the backup from the system as part of the process. A disadvantage is the 650 MB file size limitation..it will probably span disks but who wants a half dozen disks for one drive image?

Harddrives continue to outpace all other media both in size and ease of configuration. DVD takes us to several gig and is not really here yet but Maxtor is giving us 17 gig today.

My current thinking is a two harddrive system as a base configuration with an IDE CDROM drive boot option. I will probably add a third harddrive in a removable tray.
