Okay, my final post for 30 days. Promise! "Ode to Shop At Home":
To the Group:
I'm putting up this press release for Shop At Home because they are doing something very clever and unusual and, in light of TVW, we need to appreciate it.
As Motley Fool's *lead story* reported tonight (and note the reference to BCST):
News of news to come was big news for shareholders of online and TV-based specialty retailer Shop At Home (Nasdaq: SATH) today. The company's shares jumped ahead $5 1/4, or 44.2%, to $17 1/8 after it distributed a press release announcing a news conference at which, presumably, significant news will be announced. Company officials told news services that although the company is not for sale, it would consider serious offers from the likes of QVC, owned by Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSK), USA Networks (Nasdaq: USAI) property Home Shopping Network, or Broadcast.com (Nasdaq: BCST). Whatever the upcoming news will be, it pertains to the company's Internet strategy, and that was enough for investors today. Just to make sure nobody misses out, the news will be available live over various television services and an Internet simulcast Feb. 10. Shop At Home also plans to report fiscal second-quarter earnings during the broadcast -- four analysts surveyed by First Call expect a penny per share profit.

So, Shop At Home is going to broadcast on its over-the-air and cable TV network (and *simulcast* on the Internet) a declaration that it is "not for sale," along with its miniscule quarterly results and the inauguration of its vaunted Internet strategy (for which, let's face it, *nobody* was otherwise holding his/her breath). Very seductive, very preemptive, very cool. News gets made, the stock pops! "The medium is the message."

Shop At Home President and CEO Kent Lillie said, ''I believe this is the first time a company has released news to the market through a live national broadcast. We chose this medium to unveil our expansion plans because our concept can best be presented in a multimedia format and because of the broad marketplace interest in our company and our plans. We also wanted to give viewers the opportunity to ask questions about our plans, so we are setting up a toll-free question line and will devote a portion of the broadcast to answering call-in questions.''

The Company reaches over 60 million full and part-time cable households for a portion of each day through its network of over 200 affiliated television and cable systems and its owned and operated stations.
