Correct. Netcom is indeed taking a stab at the business market (since they lost their shirts in the dial-in retail market). What makes you think Earthlink has a better chance at success in that market then Netcom did? Regardless of their effort to buy up smaller ISPs while owning little physical network, it is still a capital intensive business, and someone needs to make the investment in maintaining the technical integrity of the product. Most of the ISPs they are buying service from are losing money and very afraid to invest more in building up an already unprofitable network. I can't imagine they can step in and save the day.
