Summary of earning. SGI losses several million less than the bookmakers predicted.

Well, on near term hype, I would not be surprised if SGI hit 30. But it seem's that this stock has had step function price changes in the past.
Sgi is selling a visual very proprietary ibm compatible. It's actually not very ibm compatible. It's what we used to call a NEC computer. Not Entirely Compatible. There is no doubt that NT box sales will cause fratracide loss of revenue from the high margin unix work station sales.

NT really sucks as a server and correctly SGI now offers linux as an option. It looks like their is no major corporation that poo poo's the viability of linux any longer.

On the other hand, I was extremely impressed with the interview with rocket man. My guess is that this his first attempt at turning SGI around will founder a bit. But the man will evaluate and correct the course. But results could be a year out.

On the other hand, I may be to conservative in my appreciation of the high margin profit of the SW 1600 displays. This could create revenue for SGI that offsets less than expected sales of the NT box. And dramatically smaller sales of Unix boxes.

Until I see SGI package a computer in a box that I can set a cup of coffee on, I will retain the opinion that Mr Rocket has not come to grips with some fundamentals of the mass PC market place.

I on the other hand putting my money where my mouth is, have purchased a SGI PC. Cost 6000. 5000 of components are SGI. 1000 for supporting hardware and software. My PC will run linux and NT and other borg viruses. Next week SGI is leaving one of their NEC computers for me to evaluate. I'll report if it can hold a candle to my model. All four video cards in my SGI pc can drive an SGI digital FLAT PANEL or a standard tube.
